Campus emergencies are unforeseen situations that threaten university employees, students and campus visitors; or cause physical or environmental damage. Emergencies may be natural or manmade and can vary in severity. Emergencies can include but are not limited to the following: Medical conditions, Traumatic Injury, Tornados, Fires, Explosions, Floods, Civil Disturbances, Chemical Spills, Radiological Incidents, Workplace Violence, and Toxic Gas Releases.
The best way to protect the university interests and assets is to prepare to respond before an emergency happens. Few people can think clearly and logically in a crisis, so it is important to do so in advance when you have time to consider all the apects pertaining to the emergency. In the main menu box at the left you will find procedures that have been developed in response to specific types of emergencies that could potentially happen on the Illinois State University Campus.
In most cases, emergencies are handled with routine procedures established within departments throughout campus. However, for emergencies that are severe in nature and impact to the University community, requiring assistance from outside emergency response agencies, the Emergency Management Plan will used to guide response actions. The Emergency Management Plan can be found in the"Resources" box to the upper right of this page. Departments are encouraged to review the plan in order to determine how they will interact during an emergency.
