Medical Emergencies

Should accidents or serious illness occur on campus, emergency medical assistance may be needed. llinois State University has its own internal emergency assistance system.

 

Rescue Squad Procedures:

In case of a fire or injury, assistance can be obtained by dialing "911". Calls from campus phones are routed to the Illinois State University Police Department (ISUPD), where there is a dispatcher on call 24 hours a day. The dispatcher will dispatch the appropriate assistance. Note: If calling from a cell phone or off campus phone, your call will be routed to Metcom, a county wide dispatch center. Please advise the operator that the call is an ISU campus emergency.

When calling for assistance, the following information should be provided to the dispatcher:

  1. Name of victim, if known.
  2. Nature of illness or injury.
  3. Location of the victim.
  4. Where someone will meet the rescue squad to lead them to the victim.
  5. Other information that may be pertinent or necessary, or that is requested by the "911" operator or rescue squad personnel.

The caller should stay on the phone with the "911" operator until they are sure no more information is needed.
