Thunderstorms

A severe thunderstorm is a rain storm that generally has heavy rains, potentially damaging winds, possibly hail, and severe lightening. In Illinois the potential of such storms is very likely, particularly during the spring.

Should such a storm be likely the National Weather Service in Peoria will notify the counties of the pending weather. Illinois State University is one of the zone centers (Zone 5) for the Emergency Services Disaster Agency (ESDA). Upon notice from the county ESDA Office, Environmental Health and Safety will issue a thunderstorm warning. All departments should continue to monitor local weather stations and the University Emergency Radio System for updates on the weather.
